On the 14th of November, Ms. McLoughlin’s 5th and 6th Class went to Navan Library for a talk about Nutrition, as part of Science Week 2019. We learned about how sugar effects your immune system and how it eats away at your nutrition. We learned about what foods we should and shouldn’t eat every day.
The woman who was educating us on nutrition was Jale Egan from Green Lotus Health who is a Nutritionist, Iridologist and Master Herbalist. She showed us that there is eleven tablespoons of sugar in two Mars Bars and in a 500ml bottle of Pepsi. She also showed us that there is nine tablespoons of sugar in 330ml of Fanta Orange and seven tablespoons of sugar in 330ml of 7up. She told us that in order to stay healthy we have to eat a variety of food, for example, a rainbow of fruit and vegetables, fish, meat and carbohydrates. She also said that it is better to eat brown rice, sugar, bread and pasta as it has not been bleached and is not as processed as much as their white alternatives.
