A pupil in our class made a fantastic discovery while he was out walking in the wood near his home and would like to share it with you. As he was walking one morning he heard a strange sound and wasn’t sure where it came from.He was surprised to discover that it came from a great spotted woodpecker who was drumming on the trees nearby. He reported his sighting to Birdwatch Ireland to make sure and was glad to hear that they confirmed that there are two great spotted woodpeckers living in that wood.
Not only that, but his discovery spurred him on to find out more about these beautiful birds and he reported his information and findings in writing for you to take a look.
So, next time you get the opportunity to go exploring or for a short walk in the countryside, forest or by the river keep your eyes peeled! You never know you might make a great discovery yourself 🙂
