Coding using iPads in fifth class!

Last Thursday, the pupils in Fifth Class A took their science lesson to the next level by learning to code with Microsoft MakeCode. This coding platform allows children to improve their computational thinking and digital literacy skills while learning maths, sphe, science, geography and much more.

The children worked in pairs to research an array of different endangered animals and embed their facts and findings into different codes. Once their codes were complete, they grouped them together to create a program. This program was then displayed virtually on their iPads. Each group was able to communicate what endangered animal they had researched and how many are left in the wild through block-based coding using the app!

In the coming weeks we hope to work on projects using this app and micro: bits, a mini computer which can physically display the programs created by the students. Thank you Mr. Watters for providing these devices for the school. We are looking forward to what we can create and code over the coming year!
