Incredible Edibles Task 1- 6th Class B

Before we began our Incredible Edibles programme we used our iPads to explore their website. We noted 5 things we learned or found interesting from our search.

We then began task 1 and researched the food products produced here in Ireland using our iPads in pairs and shared our research with our classmates. Here is what we found:

We also focused on the crops that are grown here in our own county- Meath. This is what we found:

We explored some local food growers in our county using their websites. On their websites they spoke about their business, what they grow, how their products are made and, they even gave us some recipe ideas to try.

We found some great videos on the Incredible Edibles website that taught us about how potatoes, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and beetroot are grown. Some farmers from around Ireland spoke about their products and gave us some interesting information. Did you know that a mushroom grows quickly and can double in size over night? Did you also know that bees are really important to tomato growers as they help pollinate the flowers on the tomato plants?

The Incredible Edibles website provided us with a list of food items to identify where some common foods we eat come from- for example, ham comes from pigs, bread from wheat. We complied a list of items that we commonly eat for lunch on the board and each of us traced that item from farm to fork.

Finally, we discussed the terms ‘processed’ and ‘unprocessed’ and explored some food items on the Incredible Edibles website to identify whether they are processed or unprocessed.
