Kentstown NS Qualify for FAI Primary School’s 5s Finals

We sent 2 teams to this year’s FAI Primary School’s 5s competition, Kentstown A and Kentstown B.

Kentstown A beat Trim Educate Together A, Coole NS B, Rathbeggan NS B and Scoil Naomh Eoin A to qualify for round 2.

Kentstown B beat Scoil Naomh Eoin B, Trim Educate Together B and O’Growney NS B but lost out to Rathbeggan A. This left them runners-up in their group but still with a chance of qualifying for the next stage as the best runner-up. First, Kentstown B took on Gaelscoil na Cille A in a penalty shootout. The lads held their nerve and won. They then played Scoil Naomh Eoin A in a playoff which they won 1-0 to qualify for the next round.

The 7 group winners and best runner up were then put into 2 separate groups. We ended up having Kentstown A and Kentstown B in the same group along with Slane NS and Moynalvey NS.

Kentstown B drew 0-0 with Moynalvey NS while Kentstown A beat Slane NS. Next up we had the surreal situation of Kentstown A playing against Kentstown B which Kentstown A won as Moynalvey NS beat Slane NS. In the last round of matches, Kentstown B beat Slane NS while Kentstown A drew 2-2 with Moynalvey. This meant that Kentstown A progressed through to the next round as group winners, helped in no small part by Kentstown B’s earlier draw v Moynalvey.

Well done to all the boys who participated in today’s competition. They represented the school, their families and community brilliantly.

Kentstown A will compete in the FAI Primary School’s 5s Finals on Wednesday 17th April against Bohermeen NS, Coole NS and St. Dympna’s National School.
