Meath FAI 5 aside Champions

Well done to our boys soocer team who won the Meath FAI 5 aside competition today in the MDL.

Qualifying for the county finals alongside Coole NS, St. Dympna’s NS (Kildalkey) and Bohermeen NS, we knew that we had a few tough games ahead of us, with the winner of the group being crowned champions.

First up we played Coole NS. Within minutes, we were down 0-1, as Coole made a quick start. The lads stayed patient though, waiting for their chance before levelling and then taking the lead before half time. In the 2nd half we added on a few more goals to ultimately win 4-1.

In the 2nd game we played St. Dympna’s. The boys were dominant in this game with a great blend of skill and workrate on show. We ended up winning 7-0.

This set up a winner takes all match against Bohermeen. Again the boys went behind 0-1 to an early goal. And again the boys showed great patience and character to not panic and wait for their chances to come. 2 goals within a minute put us into the lead before the lads added another to be up 3-1 at half time. In the 2nd half the boys showed a level of control while adding 3 more goals, to win 6-1, thus topping the group and winning the competition.

Great credit must be given to all of the team. They showed great character, skill, team work and respect throughout the competition. They received a lot of compliments from other schools and were truly deserving to be crowned Meath FAI 5 aside champions. They now progress to play in the North Leinster Championships on Wednesday 1st May in the MDL.
